How to File a Homeowners Insurance Claim

When something happens to your home, the steps you take in the first few hours can make the claims process much smoother.

Make the area safe

Prevent further damage where you reasonably can — shut off water, tarp a roof, board a broken window. Keep receipts for anything you spend; many policies reimburse these temporary measures.

Document everything

Photos and short videos of the damage, before any cleanup, are some of your most useful evidence. Make a list of damaged items with approximate ages and values.

Notify your agent and carrier promptly

Call us as soon as the situation is safe. We help you open the claim, communicate with the adjuster, and make sure nothing important gets missed.
