About Homeowner's Insurance

Your home is likely the largest investment you will ever make, and the right homeowner's policy helps you protect it. Knowing what a standard policy includes — and where it stops — gives you a confident starting point.

What a standard policy typically covers

Most homeowner's policies bundle protection for the dwelling itself, other structures on the lot (like a detached garage or shed), your personal belongings, and liability if someone is injured on your property. Additional living expenses are usually included if a covered loss forces you out of your home temporarily.

What is usually excluded

Floods, earthquakes, normal wear and tear, and damage from long-term neglect generally are not covered. In Florida, flood coverage is purchased separately, and many homes also need wind/hurricane coverage to be properly protected.
